High potential and gifted education
At Ingleburn Public School, we believe every child has potential waiting to be discovered, developed and celebrated. Our High potential and gifted education (HPGE) programs support students who demonstrate high performance or the capacity for high performance in one or more areas.
We provide opportunities, experiences, and challenges so all students can stretch their abilities, pursue their passions and achieve personal excellence.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
We use a whole-school approach to HPGE:
- Early identification through teacher observation, assessment data, and parent input.
- Differentiated learning in the classroom to match student readiness, interests, and learning pace.
- Enrichment opportunities to extend learning beyond the standard curriculum.
- Wellbeing support to ensure high potential students are challenged while still feeling supported.
- Teachers provide differentiated tasks that adjust the pace, complexity, and level of higher order thinking to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Use formative assessment to monitor student growth and adapt learning experiences accordingly. Through explicit teaching, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving strategies that deepen understanding and independence. Flexible grouping is also used to encourage collaboration, idea sharing, and effective presentation of learning.
- We create supportive and safe learning environments where students feel confident to try different approaches, and reflect on their own learning. Students are encouraged to take risks in their learning, persevere through challenges, and celebrate their progress along the way.
- Students are given opportunities to take on leadership roles within the classroom, helping them build confidence and responsibility.
DanceSport
DanceSport is competitive ballroom dancing that combines the physical demands of sport with the artistry of dance. Each year, Year 5 and 6 students have the chance to learn ballroom dances—cha-cha, jive, tango, and more.
This selective group practises weekly during school hours to develop their partner dancing skills and keep in time with the music.

Our DanceSport program has achieved remarkable success, including winning the Sandra Nori Cup Award at the Metropolitan South DanceSport Challenge Gala in 2026. Two groups placed in the top 10, and one couple was honoured as a Wild Card finalist.
We have also partnered with SSP Passfield Park School to promote inclusion, paving the way for greater collaboration between SSP and mainstream schools. Our achievements have been recognised at principal network events, and the program was featured on Channel 7’s Bright Side segment. Students describe DanceSport as “fun, unique, and a great way to make new friends,” and we are proud to offer this enriching and inclusive experience to our school community.
Robotics
Our Robotics and Coding programs for K–2 and 3–6 students remain a central component of our HPGE offerings. These programs align closely with the Department’s HPGE policy and school vision to provide a collaborative, future-focused learning environment.
They showcase the passion and expertise of our staff in delivering excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, particularly in STEM education.
Students in this program have continued to compete at high levels, reaching National Finals for four consecutive years, and representing Australia for the past two years at the World Finals in Japan, placing third overall.
Cantabile
The Cantabile Music Festival is a cherished annual event that gives our students the opportunity to shine on one of the state’s grandest musical stages. Bringing together more than 1,000 talented performers from public schools across Metropolitan South, Regional South and beyond, the festival celebrates the power of music, collaboration, and student excellence.
More than 700 primary students from Years 3 to 6 unite as one choir, creating an unforgettable choral experience. The diverse repertoire — spanning classical to contemporary pieces — allows every performer to grow, challenge themselves, and experience the joy of high-quality music-making. For our students, Cantabile offers far more than a performance opportunity. It nurtures confidence, builds teamwork, strengthens commitment, and inspires creativity.
- The Premier’s Spelling Bee promotes our students’ vocabulary development and attention to detail in competitive settings.
- The Premier’s Debating Challenge helps our students to build logical arguments and confidence in public speaking.
- The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC) promotes whole-school participation in physical activity with leadership pathways and professional learning.
- The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events enable our students to trial and compete in sports at regional, state and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment and collaboration.
